A release liner is a strip of material coated on one or both sides with a releasing agent used for nearly all products utilizing a mastic or adhesive coating such as tapes or labels. The release liner is the thin strip of material pulled away from the sticky side of the adhesive side of a product.
Release liners are typically made of either a paper or plastic material available in different variations based on the application they are required for. Paper release liners are typically made from specialty paper but can utilize a poly or clay coating whereas plastic release liners make use of different plastic resins which can be mixed to alter the density of the release liner.
The applications are nearly endless for release liners. Any industry that makes use of self adhesive materials will generally require a release liner of some form. Most often release liners are found on tapes or labels, however the manufacturing process of release liners is highly customizable to meet the requirements of an application.
